As many of you may know Scouts have been running a consultation to explore early years Scouting provision in England. They have run 29 pilots, with one of these pilots being in Birmingham and held discussions with a range of parties. Considering the extensive research, member consultation and the pilots over the last 18 months, The Scouts have approved the concept of this new section for four- and five-year-olds which will be called Squirrels.
There will be a staggered start to this provision and to assist this and ensure that the decision making, planning and delivery are well supported, they are asking for each County Commissioner to nominate a Squirrels Adviser who will be trained to support informed decision making and planning.
In Birmingham, we are now seeking Expressions of Interest for this role. This will be a fixed-term role and it will not be there to deliver the opening of the new provision, but will support the conversations to consider if the time is right to start this provision and to co-ordinate this approach within the County.
If you would like to be considered for this role or to have an informal chat about the role then please complete the Squirrels form below. Forms need to be submitted by the end of June 2021.
Further information on the provision can be found on The trail to Squirrels link below.
