A special concert commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War is being held in Birmingham.
Lest We Forget – The National Children’s WW1 Remembrance Concert is to take place on November 3, 2018, at the Genting Arena. The event is the brainchild of Scary Bones children’s author Ron Dawson and is being organised in association with the Department for Communities and Local Government.
“The ambition of this children’s centenary concert is to renew that remembrance and our gratitude to those who lived, fought and died in that terrible war a century ago.”
The focal point of the concert will be a choir of over 2,000 children dressed to resemble two giant remembrance poppies.
They will be supported by an orchestra of 160 young musicians from the Birmingham Youth and Ealing Youth Orchestras, the National Youth Pipe and Drum Band, the Sandwell Youth Brass Hand, Birmingham Acoustic Guitar Group, The Leicestershire Show Choir, the Hywel Girls’ choir and Hywel Boy Singers plus Angelicus Celtis, performers from Norfolk, Bournemouth and Sutton Coldfield and a parade of 57 flags by Scouts and Guides.
We are looking for 57 Scouts and Guides to parade a flag into the arena at the concert. The places are being shared between Birmingham Scouts and Guides with those interested asked to complete the following link to note their interest and give an idea of how many Young People and adults they would be able to send. The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 5th October 2018. Leaders will then be contacted shortly thereafter with offers of confirmed places.
Rehearsals for the flag bearers would take place around lunchtime on 3rd November with the concert starting at 6.00pm and ending by 9.00pm.
