Are you aged 18 to 25, a member of UK Scouting and enjoying challenging yourself with new experiences whilst helping others? If so The Scouts Of the World Award (SOWA) could be the next adventure you are looking for.

The SOWA is the only purely Network award in the UK with the aim of encouraging you to develop and support society, locally or globally.

SOWA enables you to develop a range of skills from project management to planning an international trip. Many of these will benefit you both inside and out of Scouting. The experience will show you that you can implement change and work to improve the lives or environment of other people.

To gain this award you must first attend a residential weekend SOWA Discovery event followed by 14 days of SOWA voluntary service, either in the UK or abroad, based on one or more of the three themes: development, environment and peace.

The Discovery event programme has been redesigned to fit within one weekend and is aimed at giving you the key skills, information and contacts you will need to carry out and also enhance your period of voluntary service phase within the Award.

Birmingham County is running a Discovery Event on Friday 9th to Sunday 11th March 2018 at Blackwell Court. If you would like to attend please follow this link for more details and an application form;
